SCOTTSDALE - Add 206
condominiums to the more than 1,500 luxury units
already under construction in downtown
Scottsdale.
Vanguard City Homes expects to start erecting steel next month on its 4.86-acre Safari Drive project east of Scottsdale Fashion Square, northeast of Camelback and Scottsdale roads, said Chris Camberlango, a principal partner.
The five-story mostly residential project will breathe life into the dormant Safari Hotel site and add another leg of pedestrian development along the Arizona Canal.
"We hope that what we've created there is a new neighborhood, a new luxury destination in town," he said.
The residential units of $600,000 to $2 million join the nearby Optima Camelview Village and Scottsdale Waterfront condos that are changing the skyline at Scottsdale and Camelback roads.
A handful of other condo projects are moving ahead as well.
Originally called Riverwalk Square, Safari Drive will include dual-purpose lofts for work and living, townhouses and a few shops, Camberlango said.
